Our History
In 1991, a small group of civic leaders in Anacortes envisioned a community foundation that could meet their hopes and dreams for a performing arts center. A concert fundraiser featuring Burl Ives and friends raised the funds to establish the first endowment for a performing arts center, that would later become The McIntyre Hall Performing Arts Center.
Donors have established funds and endowments over the years to benefit libraries, cancer care centers, animal shelters, scholarships, museums, and their favorite nonprofit organizations.
Today, the Skagit Community Foundation has 80 different donor-established funds and is one of more than 900 community foundations in the United States, dedicated to improving the lives of people in a defined geographic area. Community foundations bring together the visions, generosity, and resources of individuals, families, and businesses to support their local nonprofit sector.

Honoring Our Beginnings
In 1996, the Skagit Community Foundation's purpose and mission was documented in a video generously donated by former SCF Board Member Jennifer Juckett. The project, spearheaded by her daughter, a recent college graduate in film production, showcases the story of SCF. The Roots of Generosity video you see today is a revitalized version of the original VHS, set to the melody of "Today" by Burl Ives, a founder of the Skagit Community Foundation.
Featured in this film are former SCF Board Members:
Doris Elizabeth Packard, Don Daniels, Leighton Wood, Jennifer Juckett, Dorothy Ives, Mike Crawford, Marge Ashley,
& Dr. Jack Papritz
