​James Sanders has lived and worked in Mount Vernon since 2007, when he was hired into the fire department as a firefighter/paramedic. Today, James is serving the city as a Battalion Chief. James studied Fire Service Administration at Eastern Oregon University and then went on to complete his Masters Degree in Leadership, Disaster Planning, & Executive Fire Officer through Grant Canyon University. James has served in executive positions for IAFF Local 1983 and is a member of the Mount Vernon Rotary Club and Sonrise Christian Center Church in Sedro-Woolley.

 James lives in Mount Vernon with his wife Missy and their three children.
