The Skagit County Firefighters Benevolent Association
Scholarship Fund
ABOUT
The The Skagit County Professional Firefighters Benevolent Fund was established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization to support firefighters and their families in times of hardship. Funded entirely through the generosity of donors, the Benevolent Fund provides assistance when unforeseen emergencies arise within the Skagit Firefighting community. The Benevolent Fund exists to support firefighters and their families through illness, injury, death, or other significant life challenges. It’s grassroots philanthropy: local donors, many of them firefighters themselves, invest in the long-term wellbeing of our local first responders and their families.
As the Benevolent Fund has grown, the Skagit County Professional Firefighters created a new opportunity to help local firefighters, their families, and prospective firefighters continue their education and develop the first responder workforce pipeline.
The Skagit County Firefighters Benevolent Scholarship Fund supports two distinct scholarship opportunities:
1. Support for Firefighters and Their Families
A scholarship designated for eligible Skagit County firefighters or their immediate family members who are returning to higher education. Applicant vetting and selection will be conducted by the SCFBA Scholarship Committee.
2. Investing in the Next Generation of First Responders
A publicly accessible scholarship for community members pursuing careers in firefighting, paramedicine, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. The goal of this scholarship opportunity is to help reduce financial barriers for the required education and training, and to encourage workforce development in public safety.
