What We Fund

The Skagit Community Foundation (the “Foundation") is committed to the principles of good grantmaking and due diligence. The Foundation will review grant applications from organizations meeting the following criteria:

Grants for charitable purposes:

  • Non-profit designated under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code (advanced rulings are acceptable).
  • Educational, religious, or public entity must provide evidence of its official status in that category.
  • Project “well-conceived”, likely to be successful, and falls within the scope of the organization’s charitable mission.

Grants to "well managed" organizations in good financial health:

  • Responsible Board of Directors serving without compensation
  • Copy of the organization’s Form 990 submission, or; copy of the organization’s most recent audited financial statement

No benefit accrues to staff, board members, or donors involved in the grant review or recommendation:

Grants are used by grantee for the appropriate purposes as approved by the Foundation’s Board of Directors:

Grants are limited to organizations primarily servicing the State of Washington, except upon instruction of a fund advisor at the time of the gift or bequest. Primary emphasis will be given to organizations in the greater Skagit community whose services benefit the residents of this area.
