Scholarship Funds

Scholarship funds allow donors to invest in the community’s future and help deserving students – from pre-school to postgraduate – to achieve their lifetime dreams. These funds provide support for individuals pursuing a training or educational opportunity.  As part of the fund, donors can specify certain eligibility criteria, such as the school(s) students must graduate from or be admitted to.

  • Anacortes Youth Sports Coalition Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 to provide scholarships to outstanding youth athletes in the Anacortes area that plan on continuing their education.
  • BEHS Class of ’59 fund was established in 1994 by Charles and Linda Barbo to help fund projects taken on by the Burlington Edison High School Class of 1959.
  • The Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Crowther Family Fund was established in 2004 to provide scholarships currently administered though P. E. O. (Chapter GB).
  • The Riley W. Johnson Memorial Fund was established in 2000 in memory of Riley who passed away in 1999 as a result of an auto accident.  The scholarship is to preserve his memory and assist his fellow students at Mount Vernon High School as they continue their education.
  • Lake McMurray Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 to provide scholarship assistance to graduating seniors intending to pursue post high school classes and current or prospective students in post high school institutions that live or lived in the boundaries of Lake McMurray Fire District.
  • The Otto Walberg Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in 1988 to honor the life of Otto Walberg. He was always there to offer help to a friend or to anyone else who could use a hand. As a softball umpire, player, coach and Skagit County Commissioner, Otto Walberg demonstrated and encouraged these traits in others.  He was known to be friendly, fair and enjoy a good laugh. This scholarship endowment seeks to benefit students who demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship and enthusiasm in the game of baseball, as well as in the other aspects of life. Funds will go to graduating female seniors at Anacortes, Burlington, Concrete, LaConner, Mount Vernon, Sedro Woolley or Stanwood High School and be a high school softball participant. The recipients must use the scholarship to attend an accredited technical school, community college, college or university.
