Field of Interest Funds

The donor instructs The Skagit Community Foundation to use the available grant dollars in a particular program area, such as education, health, youth, the environment and so forth, rather than restricting the money to one organization. The Foundation determines the specific recipient. Field of interest funds are flexible enough to meet changing community needs in a specific interest area.

  • George B. and Ruth Elizabeth Ferguson Foundation Endowment was established in 2007 to provide scholarships to deserving students for their post-secondary education; and to provide for educational opportunities for adult education.
  • The John S. Underwood Endowment was established in 2002 for priority funding to animal protection projects, scholarships to vocational and trade schools, apprenticeship and mentor programs.  Some community projects with matching or challenge grants that may be considered are: Libraries, Medical Facilities, Senior Centers and Fire Departments.  The donor prefers funding projects rather than programs, tangible rather than intangibles, and needs rather than wants. The donor would prefer that funds be used to build something that demonstrates respect for history, tradition and traditional values.  The donor values a strong work ethic.  Funding shall reflect these values.
  • Clinton W. and Florence Vaux Endowment for Youth Educational Programs was established in 2003 to provide support for religious, early child care and or medical education programs. Secondary purposes will be to support other locally run educational programs serving the youth of Skagit County.
